How to Use Hair Lightening Sprays
Using hair lightening sprays is an easy way to get a sun-kissed look and add natural-looking highlights to your hair. You control how much or how little you want your hair to change. 1
Fill a spray bottle with water to keep your hair damp. Lightening sprays only work on damp hair, so if your hair begins to dry out, you can simply spray more water on it.
-
2
Choose the strands of hair you would like to highlight. Pull out those sections one at a time and spray the lightener on them. Comb through the strands to get those sections evenly highlighted.

3
Spend time in the sun to allow the spray to do its work. It is heat activated and the sun is a perfect source of heat to make the spray work. If it is cloudy out, or if it is winter, you can use a blow dryer instead.

4
Get blonder highlights if your hair is naturally blond. Brunettes will get red tones from the lightening spray. However, if you are a brunette and you want blond highlights, keep using the spray. Some brunettes have gold tones in their hair that will come out with enough use of the spray lightener.

5
Frame your face with a few blond highlights to freshen your look. For a more drastic change, spray the lightener all over your hair and comb it through. Then sit in the sun or blow dry it and watch the results.

6
Use the lighteners several times to get your desired look. It might take several tries to get your hair lightened enough, especially if you have naturally brown hair. Blonds will be lightened much faster than brunettes.

Refresh your look every few weeks once you have reached the shade you want. Unlike with traditional hair dyes, you won't have unsightly roots and you won't have to clean up a hair-color mess from all over your bathroom. Spray the highlighted sections again every so often to maintain your sun-kissed look.

Tips & Warnings
Start small. Do a strand test to see what the lightening sprays will do to your color. You can always add more highlights, but it is more difficult to take them away! Do a few strands first and you can add more highlights later if you would like.
