Instructions

    • 1

Apply an ice pack to the injection sites immediately following the procedure and keep it in contact with the skin for at least 10 minutes. The coolness will help to prevent swelling and bruising from developing.

    • 2

Apply light makeup to the injection sites if there is redness and you are returning to work or another engagement. A little concealer should hide any evidence of the Botox treatment.

    • 3

Avoid massaging the area where the Botox injections were. Massaging can cause the Botox toxin to spread and paralyze muscles that were not intended to be paralyzed.

    • 4

Don't exercise strenuously for at least 24 hours. Strenuous exercise can also cause the Botox to migrate to unintended areas.

    • 5

Don't lie down for 3 to 4 hours immediately following the procedure. Again, this can cause Botox migration.

    • 6

Talk to your doctor about any facial exercises that you might need to do to test your facial muscles. The doctor should be able to demonstrate these exercises.

    • 7

Ask your doctor about anything you should avoid putting on your face as you recover. You may need to avoid some products temporarily.

    • 8

Look for some results from the the procedure after 24 hours. Results may take 3 to 10 days to manifest fully.

    • 9

Go in for a follow-up appointment after you recover. Usually the doctor will want to see the results of the procedure after the initial treatment to assess the Botox dosage. You probably will not need follow-up appointments after subsequent treatments.

Tips & Warnings

  • Take an ibuprofen or another over-the-counter pain medication immediately before the procedure to help minimize pain and swelling at the injection sites.

  • The initial Botox treatment will give your doctor an idea of how much Botox is required to produce the desired results in your face. On your next treatment, probably somewhere between 3 and 6 months later, your doctor may decide to increase or decrease the amount of Botox used based on how you responded the first time.

  • Botox treatment will wear off between 3 months and a year after the procedure. To maintain results you have to keep up regular injections.

Botox cosmetic has been used by over 9 million patients. It's popularity is from its immediate results with virtually no downtime. Following a procedure, the patient may have a small patch of redness at the injection site, like a mosquito bite. That redness will be gone in a couple hours. We also recommend no vigorous exercise or rubbing the area within 24 hours of the injection. We recommend the patient not take any OTC drugs that thin the blood, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, 24 hours in advance of the treatment, to minimize bleeding. Botox is safe and effective and the improvements are natural and begin almost immediately.
