Trimming ear hair requires a gentle and steady hand, since the skin around our ears is sensitive and susceptible to irritation. Fortunately, there are several ways to remove ear hair easily that are relatively safe and painless, such as shaving, plucking and waxing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Washcloth
  • Tweezers
  • Manual razor
  • Hair removal or waxing kit
  • Aloe vera or vitamin E lotion

Step1
Wash your ears with warm water, using a washcloth, before your use any hair removal methods. Warm water will help to open up the pores of your skin as well as hair follicles, so the individual hairs can be more easily removed.
Step2
Trim your ear hair by using a razor to gently skim around the outer edge of the ear. Take care not to apply any pressure, since the skin of your ear is soft and can be very easily cut or nicked. Use a multi-bladed manual razor with a moisturizing strip for the best results, as opposed to a cheap single-bladed disposable razor which may be more likely to cut your ear as well as your hair.
Step3
Pluck the hair from ears using a pair of tweezers. While this may take longer than shaving with a razor, it is the best method to trim hairs within the folds of the ear without the risk of a nick or cut. Be aware that plucking hairs with a pair of tweezers may cause ingrown hairs if you do not proceed carefully.
Step4
Remove the hair from your ears by using wax. While this is not the easiest and most effective way to remove hair, it may be employed if you are already using wax to remove hair from other parts of your body. Just make sure that your ears are clean and dry, that you cut the waxing strips into small pieces that will conform to the shape of your ear and that you avoid having wax drip into the inner part of your ear.
Step5
Apply a soothing cream or ointment to your ears after you trim the hair. Use a cream that contains aloe vera or vitamin E oil in order to reduce the chance of skin irritation or ingrown hairs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Consider whether you want to remove the fine hairs that grow at the entry of the ear canal. These hairs serve an important purpose by keeping dirt and foreign objects from entering the ear canal, and can also enhance our hearing abilities.
