There are many reasons to remove arm hair. It could be to create a swifter stroke in swimming, to remove particularly dark or thick hair or to enjoy a novelty. Shaving is not a good option, as the hair tends to become very coarse when it grows back. Other methods of removing hair can be rather painful. Body sugaring, however, is an excellent method for arm hair removal that is simple, cheap and not nearly as painful as you might think.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Exfoliating sponge
  • Coarse towel
  • Talcum powder
  • Jar of body sugaring
  • Tongue depressor or small wooden spoon
  • Strips of cotton sheeting

Step1
Use an exfoliating sponge on your arm to remove dead skin. Dampen the sponge slightly prior to exfoliating.
Step2
Dry your arm vigorously with a coarse towel. Remove all of the water from the surface of your arm. The sugaring will not stick or remove hair if there is any moisture present.
Step3
Apply a light dusting of talcum powder to your arm to complete the drying process.
Step4
Heat a jar of body sugaring in the microwave (make sure you remove the lid first). Use 50 percent power and heat it for no longer than 1 minute. After heating, the body sugaring should be the consistency of thick molasses.
Step5
Stick a tongue depressor or small wooden spoon into the body sugaring jar and remove just enough to cover the hair that you want to remove.
Step6
Use the tongue depressor or wooden spoon to coat the arm with the body sugaring mixture. Apply it evenly.
Step7
Cover the body sugaring mixture on your arm with a clean strip of cotton sheeting. You may need more than one strip to cover all of the hair.
Step8
Press down on the cotton strip to make sure it sticks to your arm.
Step9
Tear the cotton strip off of your arm as quickly as possible, going in the opposite direction of the way the hair is growing.
Step10
Rub a small amount of body lotion into your arm to soothe it and reduce any redness or irritation.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your body sugaring comes in a plastic or metal jar, do not put it in the microwave. Instead, warm it by heating it in a small amount of water on your stove (keep the lid on).
  • Make sure you cool the body sugaring before applying it to your skin. It should be warm, but comfortable to the touch, resembling heated massage oil.
