While hairy underarms may be thought of as sexy in some parts of the world, in the United States and much of Western Europe, it's considered unsightly. This is especially true for women. Traditionally, frequent shaving has been required to remove underarm hair and keep that area looking smooth and clean. However, body sugaring offers a longer lasting, inexpensive solution that many women may wish to explore.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Jar of body sugaring
  • Clean cotton sheet, cut into long, rectangular strips of equal sizes
  • Tongue depressor or wooden spoon
Step1
Heat the body sugaring in the microwave on medium power for 1 minute. You can heat it right in its container, as long as the container is microwave-safe. If not, scoop the body sugaring out with a spoon and put it in a microwave-safe bowl for heating.
Step2
Scoop out a marble-sized ball of body sugaring with a tongue depressor or wooden spoon.
Step3
Dry your underarm area. There should be no moisture there at all, as the body sugaring won't stick properly in the presence of moisture. Apply talcum powder in order to achieve maximum dryness.
Step4
Spread the body sugaring over your underarm hair, using the tongue depressor or a wooden spoon. Apply it in the direction of the hair growth. Make sure you completely cover all of the hair.
Step5
Take one of the rectangular, cloth strips. Press it firmly down over the body sugaring on your underarm hair. Use as many strips as it takes to get all the hair covered with cotton. If the strips are too long, you can trim the ends as needed.
Step6
Yank off the strips in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Do this quickly and firmly. This should remove the hair under the cotton strip.
Step7
Splash your underarms with cold water to take away some of the sting.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rub a soothing cream or lotion into your underarm area after removing the hair with body sugaring. This will help keep the skin soft and work toward preventing a rash from forming.
  • If you experience discomfort that lasts more than 3 to 5 minutes after body sugaring, apply a small ice pack to the area until the pain subsides. Be sure to wrap the ice pack in a towel before putting it against your skin.
  • When you remove underarm hair with body sugaring, it's going to hurt a little bit. Sugaring is more gentle than waxing, but it still pulls your hair out by its roots. Since the underarm is such a sensitive area, expect some minor discomfort.
