Step 1
Ask your dermatologist for specific information about how to care for your skin following microdermabrasion. Find out whether there are any ingredients that could cause complications for your skin the day after the procedure.
-
Step 2
Wash the area of your body that was treated with microdermabrasion and use a towel to pat it dry and help remove dead skin cells. Try not to rub with the towel because it can irritate your skin. Use a cold water rinse to help your body naturally close up your pores.
-
Step 3
Apply a small amount of moisturizing aftercare products to your skin to prevent itchiness. Keep it with you during the day in case your skin starts to dry out. Make sure that the lotion isn't too oily, because that could contribute to other skin problems.
-
Step 4
Look for a light lotion that improves lymphatic circulation. These aftercare products are more important if you use a home microdermabrsion kit that is applied by hand because the process often doesn't stimulate blood flow. A lotion with vitamins A, B and C can help encourage proper healing and blood flow.
-
Step 5
Use sunscreen if you plan to spend more than 30 minutes at a time in the sun during the first 2 days after your treatment. Consider wearing a hat to help prevent ultraviolet rays from burning the top layer of skin on your face. Wear sunscreen even if the weather is cloudy because your skin will be extremely sensitive to light and a sunburn will force you to postpone microdermabrasion treatment.
