How to Wax Facial Hair

Unwanted facial hair can be a source of embarrassment and frustration for women. Luckily, if happen to be one of those women with facial hair, you can wax away it away at home by yourself easily and inexpensively.

• Facial Hair Wax

1. Skip shaving for about three weeks before waxing. You must have at least enough hair for the wax to grab. Hair on the upper lip may be embarrassing, so wax it as soon as it is long enough.
2. Exfoliate your skin regularly. This will help prepare the skin for waxing and deter ingrown hairs during periods of regrowth.
3. Decide what kind of wax you want to use. Hot wax seems to be the most reliable for pulling out unwanted hair, but there are cold waxes as well. Beyond heat, there are several different types of wax ingredients and additives. Try experimenting until you find the wax that works for you.
4. Wash and dry your face, making sure any area you wish to wax is free from makeup and lotions. You can further dry your skin with a light dusting of talcum powder.
5. Test a small area of skin with the wax you have chosen to use to see if it causes any adverse reactions. With heated wax, you should also test a small area to make sure the temperature is correct.
6. Apply the wax and immediately press a cloth strip onto it, smoothing it down so it lies flat against the skin. Wait a second, then quickly pull the cloth strip off, removing the wax and hair with it.
7. Pull the wax off your skin against the growth of your hair. For facial hair, which tends to grow in various directions, you may need to reapply the wax in the same area and remove in different directions to catch all of the hair.
8. Treat only a small area at a time. The upper lip should be done one side at a time and then the center. The chin should be waxed in much the same manner.
9. Apply aloe or lotion to alleviate some of the redness associated with waxing. Your skin should be back to normal within a few hours.

Tips & Warnings

• When shaping the eyebrows, do not remove too much hair at one time. You can always make your eyebrows thinner, but it takes weeks for a botched waxing job to grow back in.
• Avoid overheating wax as it can cause serious burns. Overheating can also cause the wax to become brittle, making it useless.
• Never wax acne-prone areas or parts of your face that are currently broken out, as it may cause scarring.
