Flowers play an integral part in the decoration of even the simplest of weddings. When choosing the blooms that will go into your arrangements, put color at the top of your list of considerations. Your attention to detail when selecting the colors of your wedding floral arrangement can pay off in a ceremony and reception to be remembered.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Flower and garden magazines
  • Wedding color palette
  1. Step 1

Use your favorite flower as a jumping-off point when selecting the colors for your flower arrangements. Depending on the bloom you select, you may have fewer choices in naturally occurring colors.

  2. Step 2

Choose colors of flowers that are significant to you and your fiancé. For example, you could create a meaningful arrangement for the head table by combining the colors of your birthstones with the birth-month flowers for both you and your future spouse.

  3. Step 3

Look beyond flowers to include the colors of fruits and vegetables in your flower arrangements. Small, wired pumpkins, peppers and other edibles can provide great color contrast to your bouquet and table arrangements.

  4. Step 4

Collect images of flower arrangements and colors from floral and gardening magazines. When you meet with your florist, take them along to help illustrate the colors and arrangement styles you want for your wedding.

  5. Step 5

Take along your wedding color palette when you select colors for your floral arrangements. Your palette might include swatches of the bridesmaid dresses, samples of the paper and linen goods you will be using at the reception or copies of your wedding invitation.

  6. Step 6

Ask your florist to use foliage to provide contrast to the colors you select for your wedding arrangement. Leaves and branches in darker or variegated green will provide balance, especially if you choose a monochromatic palette for your wedding flowers.

  7. Step 7

Incorporate your flower arrangement vase or container into your color consideration. Doing so provides an excellent opportunity to add punchy color to your reception tables and altar arrangements.

  8. Step 8

Decide what kind of lighting will be available for your ceremony and reception when choosing floral arrangement colors. If your venue is not brightly lit, lighter colors may be lost.

  9. Step 9

Limit your flower arrangement colors. While a rainbow of blooms may seem attractive as a casual bouquet, they will not provide the kind of unified design required for successful wedding decoration.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use seasonal blooms to make the most of your flower arrangement dollar when planning your wedding. These tend to be less expensive than flowers that must be specially grown out of season.
