A daffodil in full bloom can put a spring in any bride's step as she heads down the aisle. Daffodils are available in many varieties. In addition to the standard yellow variety, you can choose an array of white hybrids with center cups of yellow, orange or pink, pink daffodils and varieties with double petals.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Nursery or garden center
  • Wicker plant holders
  • Bulb catalog

Step1
Purchase potted, blooming daffodils to decorate your ceremony area. Most churches and event sites will let you bring in your own flowers to brighten up the altar, gazebo or reception room.
Step2
Order your daffodil plants well ahead of time. Call nurseries and garden centers to inquire when they will have their blooming plants available for sale. Ask about their selection of daffodils including color, size and how many blooms to a pot. Buy pots with at least 5 to 7 stems in each.
Step3
Check the variety of daffodils in bloom for your wedding date. Different styles of daffodils bloom at different times from March through May. Select an Erlicheer daffodil for an early spring bud and an Avalanche daffodil for an early summer blossom.
Step4
Place the blooming daffodil plants in wicker baskets. Buy plant holders lined with plastic so the water does not leak. Adorn the baskets with bows in soft colors to accentuate the flowers. You can also find an array of decorative containers at craft and discount stores. Start buying spring items at least a year before your wedding due to seasonal availability.
Step5
Buy fresh-cut daffodils for your flower girl to carry down the aisle. Tell the florist to secure the ends of the stems with water tubes so they will stay healthy for several hours. Wrap them in lace or ribbon to conceal the tubes.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want a daintier variety, consider miniature daffodils to brighten up your bridal bouquet or groom's boutonniere. Order these year-round at many flower shops.
  • Don't rely on your own daffodil garden for your wedding unless you have large fields of the flowers. An ordinary garden is not a reliable source, since there are so many environmental issues that can impact productivity.
  • Before you give a deposit for your wedding flowers, make sure the florist can guarantee the availability of any flowers and colors you choose for the date of your wedding.
