How to Select a Bikini Style

You can wear a bikini and you don't even need a perfect swimsuit body to do so. Choose a bikini style that flatters the shape of your body and you'll feel confident, comfortable and sexy on the beach this summer. Today's top swimsuit designers offer mix-and-match tops and bottoms and plenty of different fabrics to flatter every shape. Look for a sporty tank bikini for a serious beach workout or choose a flattering tankini if you want to inch your way into baring your stomach to the world. Try a Brazilian thong if you want to turn heads on your next vacation, or pick up a pair of boy shorts to show off all those tush-toning squats you did at the gym.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Stand in front of a mirror in your bra and underwear and identify your strengths and weaknesses. If you're over the age of 13, you're probably aware of your body issues. Get out there and celebrate your curves by using the same tricks stylists have known about for years.
Step2
Take a bite out of your pear-shaped dilemma by wearing high-cut bikini bottoms.
Step3
Select a solid-colored bottom to match a floral print. This helps to shift the focus away from your hips and up toward your slim waist and upper body.
Step4
Choose horizontal stripes if you have a long torso, especially if you have shorter legs. The eye naturally follows horizontal stripes up and down, without stopping in the middle.
Step5
Go for a triangular-shaped bra if you have a smaller bust line. Look for a padded bra if you want an extra lift. Select a top with a busy pattern to create the illusion of a fuller cup.
Step6
Tame a large bust line by selecting a halter-top bikini with a wide band under the chest for extra support. Try a bikini with an invisible underwire to prevent spillage. Keep elastic from digging into your shoulders by choosing wide straps instead of strings.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear panties when trying on bikinis.
  • If your breasts are spilling out of the bottom of your bikini, it's not sexy. Get a larger size or try a different style.
  • Be wary of the runway. Don't select the latest fashions from the trendiest new designers unless the cuts, colors and styles actually flatter your body.
