Step 1
Take your measurements at home. Be sure to get a measurement for the widest part of your hips, the smallest part of your waist and the fullest part of your bust area.
-
Step 2
Convert American sizes to Brazilian sizing. Buy a "P" for small, an "M" for medium and a "G" for large. Look for "PP" and "EG" for extra small and extra-large sizes.
-
Step 3
Mix and match tops and bottoms to create a perfect fit. Shop for several solid-color bottoms and match them with patterned tops to create several different looks on a budget.
-
Step 4
Try on a bikini before you buy one whenever possible. Check the shoulder area to make sure the straps aren't pinching or creating excess bulk. Walk around the room and twist your body from side to side to make sure the bra stays put and the bottom doesn't inch up when you walk.
-
Step 5
Buy a bikini top with built-in underwire if you have a fuller bust.
-
Step 6
Choose a high-waist bikini bottom if you have short legs or a pear-shaped body.
-
Step 7
Look for bikinis from top Brazilian designers, such as Anika Brazil, Mar Egeu, Fiu Fiu and Ella Brazil.
-
Step 8
Shop for a matching Brazilian canga, or wrap, for those times when you need to cover up your hot body.
-
Step 9
Shop at the end of the season, and you can save up to 50 percent off regular prices on designer swimwear.
