How to Drink Safely With People You Don't Know
Sometimes friends aren't available for a night out. After a good conversation at a bar, you might find yourself with people you have never met, laughing and having a few drinks. Even though these people may seem friendly, you should take some steps to drink safely when you are with people you don't know.

1
Pick a bar in a safe neighborhood if you're going to drink with strangers. You are less likely to be preyed upon in a safer, more populated environment. Consider bar-hopping until you find a bar that meets this standard.
-
2
Buy your own drinks. Don't ever let anyone else purchase a drink for you unless you're at the bar where you can see it being made. It is possible, especially at nightclubs, for your friendly drinking buddy to slip a drug into your drink to tear down your defenses.

3
Take your drink wherever you go. If you let your drink out of your sight around strangers, it is possible something bad could happen to it. If you can't take your drink into the bathroom, finish it before you go inside.
-
4
Limit what you drink. Getting drunk around others is okay when you're with friends, but strangers have no obligation to make sure you get home safely. Consider just ordering one beer, and stay away from shots.
-
5
Go home alone. You might meet an appealing woman while you're out, but your judgment may be impaired because of the alcohol. Remember that you don't know this person, and it is entirely possible that you will wake up the next morning and find that your wallet is missing--or worse.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure a friend or a family member knows where you are, even if you're not going out with that person. If something unpleasant happened, that person would know your whereabouts and be able to tell the police. If you are afraid to tell that person, chances are the place you want to go isn't safe.
Get home safely in a cab if you have had too much to drink, but go by yourself. Don't let strangers know where you live. They may not be looking out for your best interests.
Don't ignore your gut feelings. If you don't trust your new friends, leave. If you start to feel sick or woozy at the bar, call a cab and go to the hospital. Trust your instincts, because sometimes they are the only indications that something is wrong.
