Things You'll Need:

    Making Homemade Baby Barrettes

  1. Step 1

Items Needed To Make Baby Barrettes

For making your baby barrette, you can use any two ribbon colors you want. It is best, in my opinion, to use one wired ribbon and one non wired. Since you are making these barrettes, use whatever style or color of ribbon you like.

  2. Step 2
Each Ribbon Cut to Sizes Needed for this Size of Barrette

Cut wired and non wired ribbon(s) from spool. For bow, cut about 15 inches in length and cut non wired ribbon for top of barrette, about 3.1 inches in length.

  3. Step 3

This is what the ribbon for top of barrette looks like cut from spool. Make sure each end of ribbon(s) is long enough for gluing inside barrette. You can cut ribbon in half so there is no ribbon overhang or you can leave it the way it is so the ribbon does not fray. If too much ribbon was cut for gluing inside barrette, cut off excess.

  4. Step 4

Now, begin to glue one end of ribbon inside barrette. Turn barrette over and place some hot glue where ribbon will go.

  5. Step 5

When the hot glue goes through hole in barrette, once dried, rip or cut off to make ribbon flush, no bumps.

  6. Step 6
    Barrette Covered with Ribbon

The top of barrette with ribbon is now covered. You can begin tying wired ribbon into bow form to be placed on covered barrette top.

  7. Step 7
Tying Ribbon Together for Top of Barrette

If you have never tied a bow together, this is how it is done. Tying a bow is simple, just takes time if you want it to look real nice.

  8. Step 8
Completed Bow for Top of Barrette

This is what the completed ribbon will or should look like. Since this is for a baby or toddler, this is the size of bow I have chosen to use, but you can make your bow as small or a big as you want.

  9. Step 9
Baby Barrette Completed and Ready to Wear

With ribbon for top of barrette now tied into a bow, add a little bit of hot glue to middle of barrette and your barrette is complete.
Now that was easy and these can be made all day long. They can be made for family or friends.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you give yourself enough time to make these barrettes, especially. if you need it the for a special event.
  • Take your time to make it right and the way you want it or them.
  • Be careful, the hot glue gun is hot, after all.
  • Keep Hot Glue Gun away from your baby or toddlers.
  • Make sure scissors are also out for reach from your babies, especially if you are making the barrettes with them in sight.

on 2/22/2009 Hi, I purchased the barrettes at either Walmart, Target or Michaels. Michaels sometimes has these barrettes, but Walmart more often.
