There are many ways to make potpourri; but I always look forward to the holidays to make simmering potpourri with that holiday scent!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A pot full of water
  • Orange peels
  • Apple peels
  • Cinnamon
  • Dried Cloves
  • Lemon peels (optional)
  • Allspice
  • Nutmeg
  1. Step 1

The first thing you will want to do is place a pot of water on your stove (you never want to leave this particular project unattended) and heat it to a low boil.

  2. Step 2

Save your orange peels, lemon peels and pieces of apples. Place them in the pot of water.

  3. Step 3

Put in cinnamon sticks and cloves, nutmeg and allspice. the "holiday" aroma will fill your home in minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • You will want to keep adding water as the water boils down.
  • I do not recommend boiling this mixture for long periods of time.
  • Promptly clean the pot following this mixture or you will have a mess.
  • Do not allow young children to help with this project unless you remove the pot from the stove and put the ingredients in at the table or somewhere else away from the stove.

on 12/8/2007 Here in the 'brrrrr' parts of Arizona (yes, Virginia, there are 'brrrrr' parts of Arizona...lol), I have a woodstove....and a cast iron teapot that sits on top. I love to fill it with 'scents and potions' to make the house smell good. I'm going to try some of the ideas presented here....thank you!
