Step 1
Introduction. The Introduction has three parts. First is the grabber, a sentence about the topic that grab's the reader's attention. It can be a quote, or an interesting fact or question.
Thesis statement/main idea is the one sentence that says what the topic of you essay is. This is usually chosen by the teacher, but not always.
Three examples. Then, you'll need a brief list of the three examples you will use to illustrate your point. -
Step 2
The Body has three paragraphs. Each paragraph is about 6 sentences.
Paragraph one must begin with a Topic Sentence that states which example (from your introductory paragraph) you will discuss. -
Step 3
After the Topic Sentence, write 3 to 4 sentences explaining your example. This is where you flesh out the details.
-
Step 4
The last sentence in your first paragraph is the Concluding/Transition sentence. Here you state that this is not the only example that illustrates your main idea, but that there are many others.
-
Step 5
Repeat Steps 2 through 4 for the second and third paragraphs, using a different example for each paragraph.
-
Step 6
The Conclusion is where you restate your thesis statement and give the reader something to think about when they are done reading your essay. It should be no more than 2 to 3 sentences.
