Instructions

    Upload Joomla's Installation Files

  1. Step 1

Upload the latest Joomla installation Package to your web hosting account using an FTP client. This package is available at the official Joomla website (See "Resources" below).

  2. Step 2

Extract the downloaded Joomla package to your computer.

  3. Step 3

Using an FTP client, upload the extracted files to your web hosting account.
=> If you want to install Joomla to your domain, you will upload the installation package into the public html folder in your web hosting account. In this case your installation will be for: http://www.your-domain-name.com
=> If you want Joomla installed into a sub-domain, you will upload the installation package into that sub-domain’s directory. In this case, for example, your installation will be in the public_html/Joomla folder, for the sub-domain: http://www.your-domain-name.com/joomla

  4. Set up a New MySQL Database in Your cPanel

  5. Step 1

Log in to your cpanel account and click on the “MySQL Databases” icon.

  6. Step 2

Next, click on the link to “Add Database” and type in a desired name for a new database.

  7. Step 3

Click on the link to “Add User” and type in a user-name and password of your choice.

  8. Step 4

Assign the privileges necessary to gain access to your new database.

    Your database has been created!
Now close Cpanel and let us move on to the really fun part: setting up your Joomla website!

  9. Set up Your Joomla Website

  10. Step 1

In your web browser, type in the web address of your Joomla installation (www. your-domain-name.com or www.your-domain-name.com/joomla). This brings you to the first Joomla installation page.

  11. Step 2

Next, you will enter information to configure your database.
=> For the hostname, use “localhost”
=> Enter your MySQL database name, => username and password.
=> For the MySQL prefix, use “jos_”
=> Click in the box to Install Sample Data, if this is your very first Joomla installation.

  12. Step 3

Now click on Next. Click on OK to confirm that all the information is accurate.

  13. Step 4

Enter your domain name and then click on Next. Confirm your website’s URL, the pathname, email address and your password.

  14. Step 5

Now, you will use your FTP client to delete the installation directory.

Once you have deleted the installation directory, use your mouse to highlight all the configuration files. Right-click and copy the highlighted files.

  15. Step 6

    Now for the final step!
Paste all the copied configuration files into the configuration.php file.

Congratulations--your new Joomla website is now installed!

Tips & Warnings
  • To view your newly installed website, click on the View Site button.
  • You can access your website’s administration panel at: www.your-domain-name.com/administrator. You will use the user-name and password that you selected during the installation.
  • It is recommended that you create the database and the user-name with the same name in order to avoid any confusion in the future (for example you can choose username_joomla for both).
