Living in the desert means humidity free air and high temperatures. Eczema sufferers have to be especially careful with skin soaps and lotions to prevent severe break outs. Dry air increases dry skin and in turn increases the affects of eczema if left untreated. Read on to learn how to prevent eczema.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Water
  • Hypoallergenic Lotion
  • Hypoallergenic Laundry Detergent
  • Hypoallergenic, Antibacterial Soap

Step1
Bathing. Bath time is the only time when eczematic skin is not irritated. Desert air robs skin of all moisture. Clean, clear water will wash away dirt from the skin. Hypoallergenic, antibacterial soap should only be used for very dirty skin, personal areas and hair.
Step2
Lotion. People who suffer from eczema produce less natural skin oils that those who do not. Lotion is the only line of defense against the mixture of already dry skin and an arid climate. Hypoallergenic lotion should be applied several times a day to prevent eczema breakouts.
Step3
Laundry. Irritated eczematic skin only becomes more irritated when perfumes and additives come in contact with the flesh. Laundry detergents should only be used on the clothing if the name reads "free" or hypoallergenic.
Step4
Drink. Eczema is not only prevented through careful skin care; but with proper hydration, as well. Drinking at least 10, 8 oz. glasses of water per day will help keep the body and the skin lubricated from the inside out.

Tips & Warnings

  • Hand soaps should all be hypoallergenic and antibacterial.
  • For severe breakouts, a doctor may need to look at the skin lesions.
  • Never use soaps or lotions with added perfumes.
