Things You'll Need:
- A good book
- A quiet place
- Time
- A comfortable place to sit
- Good lighting

Step 1
The best time to read is usually when there is no one else around. But in a busy house or at work that's not always easy. If family is a concern, it's best to wait until all the kids are off to school then choose a specific time during the day to devote to reading that favorite book. Early in the morning, in a sunny kitchen with a hot drink, or on a patio, weather permitting, with the peaceful sounds of birds is always a good choice. If the weather is disagreeable, a comfortable chair or couch where relaxing is easy is a good choice.

Step 2
Chose to read during the time of day the phone isn't likely to ring. Phones have become an essential part of our lives in staying connected to our family, friends, and/or business associates; but they can be a dreadful hindrance to relaxation. If a time of day is designated for reading that book, turn the phone off to avoid distraction and make it known that during that time you won't be available.

Step 3
At work, break time and lunch time is usually the only time to relax and read. Break rooms and lunch rooms can be noisy, so try to find a nook or alcove somewhere that office traffic is at a minimum. If there is a park nearby, that's a good place to spend that quiet 30 to 60 minutes while enjoying lunch and the book. If all else fails, the restroom can sometimes suffice. Never read at the work desk. Employers frown on the image it gives to supervisors, executives, and customers.

Step 4
If the day or place is just too busy to take that quiet time, books on CD are a great way to read without sitting down. They are great companions and a wonderful way to enjoy those favorite books. Books on CD's or tapes can be checked out at the local libraries or ordered through companies that specialize in renting books on CD's or tapes, such as Books On Tape, Books In Motion, and Chivers Audio Books. Catalogs are available through any of these companies to help with choosing those favorite books.
