There are two ways to install Joomla on a SiteGround hosting account. The easiest and preferred method is through Fantastico, which requires little technical knowledge. In just a few clicks you will have your Joomla site all set up. It also allows for easy and reliable updates. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A web-hosting server that provides a control panel
  • A registered domain name
  1. Step 1

First, log in to the cpanel of your web hosting account.

  2. Step 2

On the home page of your control panel, click on the smiley face Fantastico icon that is at the bottom of this page.

  3. Step 3

Under “Content Management” on the left-hand menu, click on the Joomla link. Next, click on “New Installation.”

  4. Step 4

The next page will require you to fill in information for your Joomla web site. Here is what the form requires:

*Install in Directory: This sets up the installation path. If you want to install Joomla in the root directory of your domain, (www.your-site.com) you should leave this blank. If you want to install it as a subdomain, (www.your-site.com/ subdomain), enter a name for the directory.
*Admin access data: Choose a username and password that you will use to access the administration panel of your new Joomla website.
    *Base Configuration
*Admin e-mail: Enter the address at which you would like to receive your email.
*Admin full name: Enter your desired admin name
*Site Name: Enter your website’s name, which will be displayed in the title bar of your home page

  5. Step 5

Once you have filled in all the necessary information, click on Install. On the next page, confirm the installation. This brings you to a page that indicates a successful installation of Joomla.

    And you're done!

Now, you can access your website’s administration panel at: www.your-domain-name.com/administrator. You will use the user-name and password that you selected during the installation.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are comfortable working with FTP, you can manually install Joomla via FTP. See “Resources” below for eHow to do it.
  • You must NOT remove the file called “fantastico_fileslist.txt,” from the installattion directory. This file is used for uninstalling Joomla.
