How to Deal With a Crisis in the Work Place

1. If the stress level of the employees is high, in general, they will most likely react to any change as a minor crisis. If there has been an area wide crisis, you can expect everyone to react.
2. Try to gather as many facts as possible. It could be the changes they read about in the paper will not take place for several months. It could also be the changes are not finalized and may never be. In the event of a disaster, you should be prepared with what will be expected of the employees and what services they may provide. Also, provide a list of services they may need to use themselves.
3. In emergency situations, it is difficult for employees to leave their families to serve others. Have a plan in place for a meeting place for your family. Advise your co-workers to do the same thing. This is a time to band together for those employees who have suffered damage. Other employees my be able to contribute items which will help co-workers get back on their feet.
4. Keep employees advised of changing situations. Rotate workers on the front lines often and try to free employees who have suffered damage from service, if possible.
