How to Do House Cleaning Economically

Today's men and women are so busy that cleaning becomes an expensive task there's no time for. To enjoy a comfortable, clean home with less cost to your time and pocketbook, try some of these tips.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • mats
  • sponge mop
  • buckets
  • rags
  • towel
  • fabric softener sheets

Step1
Make your own cleaning rags out of old cloth diapers, towels, and t-shirts. Cleaning with paper towel can get expensive.
Step2
Use mats and rugs to keep dirt from getting on your floors in the first place. A heavy-duty mat for all kinds of weather outside every exterior door is less expensive than ruined carpet and floor covering. Put a throw rug just inside every exterior door. The larger the rug, the cleaner the floors will stay.
Step3
Dust your light bulbs. You'll use less energy, see better, and save money.
Step4
Before buying paint for those dirty walls, try washing them first. My Mom has always filled one bucket with cleaning solution and one with clean water. Beginning at the bottom of the wall (beginning at the top may cause the solution to drip down and stain the paint below), clean a small section of the wall at a time with a clean sponge mop that has a self-squeezing mechanism on it. Dip the mop in the bucket with the cleaning solution, squeeze, and clean a section. Do the same thing using the bucket of clean water. Dry each clean section with a towel before moving to the next section.
Step5
To fluff and freshen musty pillows, curtains, and bedspreads, put them in the dryer with a fabric softener sheet on the air-only setting for 20 minutes.
Step6
Wipe up spills as soon as they happen to save time and cleaning solution.

Tips & Warnings

  • Store brand fabric softener sheets are usually the cheapest.
  • Cotton towels work best when drying freshly cleaned walls.
