Trinket boxes are great for hiding treasures or as gift boxes. Some people collect them for decorative pieces. Trinket boxes are a way to store special items that you want to have a perfect place for. Most trinket boxes are made of wood, cardboard or porcelain. I like to use polymer clay in vibrant colors that are always different because you are choosing the color of clays and blending them into new patterns.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Block of white polymer clay
  • Block of purple polymer clay
  • Block of orange polymer clay
  • Pasta Machine and other polymer clay tools
  • 2¾-inch round cookie cutter
  • Silver pigment inkpad
  • Liquid polymer clay
  1. Step 1

Form a log of all 3 colors into a ½-inch log. Run them through the pasta machine until a long length of the clay is about 3/32-inches thick. Now for a decorate look, take a rubber stamp that has writing on it and dip it into the silver ink. Then press lightly into the clay. Let the ink dry before handling the clay.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the strip of clay around the cookie cutter to make the wall of the box, cutting the strip where it overlaps a little. Now blend the seam and trim any excess clay on the top and bottom of the cookie cutter.

  3. Step 3

Bake with the cookie cutter to the manufactures instruction on the polymer clay. After it cools remove the cookie cutter and sand top and bottom lightly to ensure that they are even.

  4. Step 4

Now we need to make the lid of the trinket box. Smooth out a square of the swirl clay to the same thickness. Place the side onto the square making sure there is plenty left over. Cut out around the shape to make the lid. Take a small piece of the purple and form into a nice size ball. Add a few drops of the liquid polymer clay.

  5. Step 5

Bake this section according to the manufacture instructions.

  6. Step 6

Now we need to make the bottom of the trinket box. Smooth out a square of the swirl clay to the same thickness. Place the side onto the square making sure there is plenty left over. Add some liquid polymer clay to the bottom of the round sides and place in the middle of the square. Trim carefully around the base.

  7. Step 7

Roll a piece of just the purple into round snake-shape rope and place around the bottom of the base for a great trim. Bake this section according to the manufacture instructions.
