Barrel racing can be a dangerous sport, especially for a child. You can't be too careful when buying a horse for your child to use for barrel racing. Learn what to look for in a child's barrel horse.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Make sure the horse is safe to be ridden by children. Ride the horse yourself before allowing your child to ride it. If there are any questionable actions from the horse, do not take chances.

  2. Step 2

    Have your veterinarian do a complete vet check on the horse. Make sure the horse is healthy and has no soundness issues or vices.

  3. Step 3

    Have your child ride the horse in an enclosed area. Make sure your child can easily control the horse completely and is not scared of the horse.

  4. Step 4

    Allow your child to ride the horse at a barrel race to make sure the horse can be controlled and competes at the level you are looking for.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't push your child to ride a horse just because it is good at barrel racing. This can scare your child and discourage them from wanting to ride.
