Pig Latin (Igpay Atinlay) is a language game. It’s easy to play. If you want to speak a funny language with your friends, or you want to know what your parents are saying in their special Mom and Dad Speak, you can learn Pig Latin. Pig Latin follows some very simple rules.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Pick a word or words you want to translate, for example “stormy day.”
Step2
Move the consonants to the end of each word. The consonants “st” at the beginning of “stormy” now goes to the end of the word--“ormy-st.” The consonant “d” moves to the end of “day”--“ay-d.”
Step3
Now add “ay” to the consonants you moved to the end of each word. “Ormy-st” becomes “ormy-stay.” “Ay-d” is now “ay-day.” The words are now in Pig Latin.
Step4
If the word begins with a vowel, just add “-hay” to the end. For example, “is” becomes “is-hay.”
Step5
Say the following sentence in Pig Latin: “Eat with Steve.” See the answer in the Tips section.

Tips & Warnings

  • With a little practice, Pig Latin is easy to speak. You might have trouble figuring out the code in your head at first.
  • There are several Pig Latin variations. Instead of adding “-hay” to the end of words beginning with vowels, you can use “-way,” “-ay” or “-yay.”
  • “Eat with Steve” translated into Pig Latin is: “Eat-hay ith-way Eve-stay.”
