To begin an acrylic painting, choose a subject that you feel comfortable with. Then watch as a masterpiece appears on the canvas.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Acrylic paint
  • Acrylic/oil brushes
  • Canvas
  • Interior/exterior varnish
  • Container of water
  • Spray bottle
  • Paper towels
  • Plastic plate

    How to Begin an Acrylic Painting

  1. Step 1

    Sketch your subject onto the canvas.

  2. Step 2

    Pour some paint onto the plastic plate and add 3 drops of varnish. Sprits with water and mix well.

  3. Step 3

    Paint your subject.

  4. Step 4

    When your painting is done, sign and date it in the bottom right or left hand corner.

  5. Step 5

    Stand back and enjoy your creation.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is no right or wrong way to begin an acrylic painting. Just go where your imagination, inspiration, and the painting takes you.
  • Acrylic paints tend to dry up fast, so keep the spray bottle handy and sprits them as often as necessary.
  • Be sure to wash your brushes in warm soapy water after each use.
