Unfortunately, too many parents have had experiences with toddler poop they would rather forget. Playing in a poopy diaper can be seen to a toddler as a fabulous new sensory experience and an art project rolled into one. It is simply a fact of life for the parents of toddlers, at some point you will probably have a child with his hands in his diaper smearing poop on a surface you would prefer not to have poop on. By following a few simple steps you can keep your toddler from playing in her poopy diaper.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Snap bodysuits
  • One piece outfits that zip or button up the back

Step1
Secure the diaper tightly.
Step2
Put a bodysuit that snaps at the bottom on your toddler.
Step3
Place a pair of pants over the bodysuit. Having an extra layer of clothing to remove will certainly make it harder for your toddler to get to his poop.
Step4
If your toddler is still playing in his poop after you have followed steps 1 through 3, invest in clothing that zips or buttons in the back so your toddler will not be able to remove it. Clothing without snaps at the bottom should only be used as a last resort simply because it is an ordeal for you to change your child's diaper without having the easy access from the snaps.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always wash your own hands and your toddler's hands thoroughly with soap and water if they do happen to come in contact with poop.
  • Never let your toddler wear only a diaper, easy access to a poopy diaper is too tempting for a curious toddler.

on 4/24/2008 Our toddler when throught this phase. We did two things to get her through it until she stopped.
1. When we couldn't keep her clothes fastened, we duct taped the waist of her diaper. Make sure the tape doesn't touch baby's skin.
2. We took a safety pin and pinned through the zipper pull of her pajamas. The pin was on the inside of the PJs, so she couldn't get it out. It went from the back of the fabric through to the front, through the hole in the zipper pull, then into the fabric through to the inside where we fastened it. This is what ultimately worked for us. She never got it off and she eventually grew out of this stage.
