Putting on and taking off a full body wetsuit can be tough enough, when it’s soaking wet the experience can be a real nightmare. Yet, changing in and out of a wet wetsuit is just one of those things that’s included in the vast world of surfing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A plastic bag
  1. Step 1

Dawning a soaking wet wetsuit is much tougher than putting on a dry one because the neoprene tends to stick to your body, instead of sliding when you pull on it, especially on your legs. So, to make this easier, simply put your foot in a plastic bag before placing it into the leg hole in the wetsuit. Once your foot is in, pull the leg portion of the wetsuit up. It will slide smoothly.

  2. Step 2

Remove the bag from your foot, place it on the other one and repeat the process.

  3. Step 3

Next, pull the torso portion of the wetsuit up so that there are no creases on your legs or near your stomach area; a well-fitted wetsuit should fit like a glove.

  4. Step 4

Place your arms into the proper places in the wetsuit and pull the sleeves up toward your shoulders. Pull the sleeves so that the cuffs rest just above your wrists, and again, be sure to get rid of creases, or bunched up material.

  5. Step 5

Do a once over by pulling at all the bunched up areas and evening them out to fit the contours of your body. Attach the Velcro around the neck, zip up the back (or front, depending on the make and model) and go surf.

  6. Step 6

Now for the really tough part: taking off a wet wetsuit. Start by unzipping it and unfastening the Velcro.

  7. Step 7

Next, grab hold of one side of the upper back area and pull it toward your wrist, turning the sleeve inside out in effect. Continue to pull until the sleeve rolls over the wrist and is no longer on your arm. Repeat the process on the other arm.

  8. Step 8

Pull down the upper body portion of the wetsuit to your waist, or midsection.

  9. Step 9

Now, bend over and pull the wetsuit down toward your ankles, taking it as close to your feet as possible.

  10. Step 10

Raise one foot and place it, along with a good amount of force, on the pile of wetsuit surrounding the opposite leg while simultaneously pulling up this leg. When the wetsuit is finally bunched up directly over the ankle, simply bend down and pull it over and off of your foot. Repeat this process on the other leg. When your wetsuit is completely off, it will be inside out.
