Step 1
First, you need to decide what type of stroller you need. Do you need a single, double or triple stroller (or larger!)? There are several options of strollers based on how many children you need to push around.
-
Step 2
Umbrella strollers are lightweight and fold compactly. They usually do not have a basket to store things nor do they have cup holders. Umbrella strollers are usually best when you do not have much space to store the stroller, or are going on a simple walk around the neighborhood.
-
Step 3
Lightweight strollers offer storage, a cup holder or two, and sometimes a little extra padding in the seat. They can fold with one or two hands depending on model and usually fold smaller than regular size strollers, but not as small as umbrellas.
-
Step 4
Regular size strollers are not usually compact, but fold easily with one hand usually. There is plenty of storage, cup holders and possibly even a toy bar for your child.
-
Step 5
Jogging strollers offer three wheels instead of the normal four. The wheels are large and move easily in one direction, perfect for joggers. They are not great for shopping, as storage is minimal and turning is difficult.
-
Step 6
Double strollers come in most of the single stroller styles. You can buy them tandem (one seat in front of the other) or side-by-side. You can also buy a sit and stand stroller. This type of stroller offers a regular seat, and just a bench for an older child. This stroller is more compact, but the older child can't sit when the front seat is reclined.
-
Step 7
If you want your infant seat to be able to rest in the stroller, then be sure to buy them that way. You can buy a universal infant seat stroller and a regular stroller if you prefer.
-
Step 1
Once you have decided the basic style of stroller, you can go shopping. Check out all the strollers in your desired style. If you have your child, try the stroller out if possible.
-
Step 2
How easy is the stroller to move around? It should move easily around corners and through doorways if you plan to take it into stores.
-
Step 3
Check how the stroller folds. Will you be able to fold with one hand? If not, then how difficult would it be with two? Is it compact enough for you? And most important, will it fold up enough to fit in your vehicle?
-
Step 4
Check the straps and buckles. See if they are going to be easy enough to work. If you need to make the straps longer as your child grows, can you do that easily? Is the buckle safe enough for you?
-
Step 5
Check the wheels to be sure they will stay on properly. Some strollers have been known to have wheels fly off, so be careful with what you choose. The wheel should be fastened on tightly and strong enough to support a growing baby.
