Things You'll Need:
- Plenty of Cash
- Time to spend shopping
-
Step 1
The first place you visit should be Coco's. Located on East Spurtank Road in Chetpet, this cozy shop holds a wide variety of handicrafts, ranging from carpets to stationery to shawls. The majority of the items in here have been sourced from non-profit organizations and/or made by people as a micro-enterprise venture. The friendly shop attendants will be more than happy to answer any questions and give suggestions. Besides handicrafts, cards and books are also sold here.
-
Step 2
Front of Spencer's PlazaIndoArts is located in the first phase (this is the section the farthest to the right as you face the building) in Spencer's Plaza. Spencer's Plaza is located in Egmore on Anna Salai/Mount Road (both names for the road are used). IndoArts is on the third floor, visible when you step off the escalator or the elevator. A small shop, it sells mainly Kashmiri handicrafts. While Spencer's Plaza hosts at least one or two Kashmiri handicraft stores per floor, IndoArts will give you a reasonable price and will not overcharge you.
-
Step 3
Cane 'n' Bamboo is located in Egmore and is a 5-minute drive from Spencer's Plaza. True to its name, you can find many items here made out of cane and bamboo, but you will also find handicrafts which have been sourced from charity cooperatives. This family-run shop has existed in Chennai for several years and offers reasonable prices on quality items.
