Step 1
Begin at El Mongol. This righthanded reefbreak starts to work at head high and will hold up to a little more than double overhead. It can get crowded when it is big, but the lack of an actual beach reduces the amount of people out in the waves. Watch for strong riptides.
-
Step 2
Continue on to Peñarrubia, almost next door to El Mongol. This lefthanded reefbreak works best during rising tides and can reach over 3 meters. Though it can get crowded at points, there are two beaches to either side that offer reefbreaks if Peñarrubia gets too tight.
-
Step 3
Count on Rodiles. Considered the best wave in Asturias, Rodiles breaks in a rivermouth similar to Mundaka, the wave it is most compared to. Though it doesn’t get as big as Mundaka, Rodiles promises quality waves during low- and midtides. Watch for some pollution and, at times, localism.
-
Step 4
Head to San Antolin. Another rivermouth wave, San Antolin offers a few different peaks to keep the crowding to an absolute minimum. There are both rights and lefts, the number of each depending on how the sandbars have arranged themselves. A gorgeous mountain backdrop makes waiting for waves that much easier. No crowds, no localism, no beachgoers. Perfect.
