Things You'll Need:
- A dance partner
-
Step 1
Partners should stand facing each other and slightly offset. Your right side should line up with your partners middle.
-
Step 2
Gentlemen, use your right hand to clasp the lady's left shoulder blade, holding your arm in a rounded, lifted position. Extend your left hand at about chin height (or whatever is comfortable for your partner), palm facing away and your hand turned at an angle to provide a "shelf" for the lady's fingers to curl over.
-
Step 3
Ladies, rest your left arm on the gentleman's right, aligning your elbow with his. Your hand should fall at approximately his shoulder, though the exact proximity will depend on the length of your arms compared to his (remember elbow contact). Extend your right hand, palm facing away, and clasp hands with your partner, resting your fingers over the shelf he should provide for you.
-
Step 4
Remembering to stay offset, both partners should draw themselves up, then move toward each other until they establish diaphragm contact. This may require the ladies to lean back slightly.
