Things You'll Need:
- screwdrivers
- dust rag
- water hose
- water
- air blower (optional)
-
Step 1
The first step is make sure that the fan is unplugged, and remove the front and back grill from the box fan. Take special care to do this outside so that you do not spread the dust around your living room.
-
Step 2
Step two is to go over to your water hose, and spray both grills off to get what dirt off you can. Set them aside to dry.
-
Step 3
Next you will take the blower and spray out the motor area as well as the interior of the box fan. This option is not totally necessary, but to deep clean the fan, you will need to do so. Lots of dirt gets back into the motorized parts and clogs up the fan.
-
Step 4
If you do not have an air blower, then take your rag and dampen it with water. Wipe out any and all dirt that you might see. Take special care to get in and around the top and bottom of the fan, as this area often gets missed.
-
Step 5
Go back to the grills that you set aside to dry earlier. If they are dry, then take a dry cloth and wipe them down. Get inside all of the cracks and be sure to get both sides of the grill. This can be quite frustrating sometimes as the dirt tends to simply change sides when you wipe it. This is why the blower comes in so handy.
-
Step 6
Finally, replace the grills and enjoy a clean, dust-free box fan once again.
