With the enormous popularity of Dancing With the Stars, ballroom dancing is enjoying an enormous resurgence in popularity. One of the most basic ballroom dance positions is called "promenade" and is where both partners face the same direction instead of each other. Here is a step by step to get into the correct promenade position.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A dance partner
  1. Step 1

Start by getting into "Closed Facing" position (see resources).

  2. Step 2

Partners should turn slightly toward their clasped hands so they form a V-shape, maintaining all five points of contact (i.e. Man's hand to woman's shoulder blade, elbows, woman's hand to man's shoulder, clasped hands and diaphragm contact).

  3. Step 3

Turn feet slightly to face your direction of travel, keeping the woman's feet not quite even with the man's feet. Both partner's faces should look toward your clasped hands - your direction of travel.
