Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- English-Spanish dictionary
- Fluency in English and Spanish
Step1
Practice interpreting English to Spanish every chance you can. This will help keep you sharp on common and uncommon phrases and words.
Keep your English-Spanish dictionary handy.
Step2
When interpreting you will need to inform the parties involved that you are merely the messenger between parties. Your interpretation needs to be as literal as possible. Prior to starting the interpretation inform the parties that you can not directly answer questions. If further clarification is required while interpreting you will need to inform all parties involved.
Step3
Inform the participants that only one person can speak at a time. Politely remind them it would be difficult for you to interpret correctly if two or more people are speaking at the same time.
Step4
When you are interpreting for more than two persons ask each participant to let you know whom the question is for.
Step5
If interpreting professionally always make sure the session is over and thank all the participants.
