Things You'll Need:
- 1 to 4 large heads of garlic
- A microwave oven
- Paper towels
- Olive oil
- Paring knife or other small knife
-
Step 1
Peel the papery outer shell off of the garlic.
-
Step 2
With the knife, cut approximately 1/4 inch off of the top of each head of garlic. The individual cloves should all be exposed.
-
Step 3
Brush or spoon about 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil over the exposed part of the garlic head.
-
Step 4
Place the garlic heads on paper towels, exposed side facing up, and then place the paper towels and garlic in the microwave.
-
Step 5
Microwave on high for 1 minute.
-
Step 6
Turn the garlic clove over and microwave on high for another minute.
-
Step 7
Poke the garlic gently (with a spoon, fork or your finger) to make sure it feels soft. It should be soft enough to spread fairly easily. If it's not soft enough, microwave it on high for another 15 to 30 seconds.
-
Step 8
Remove the garlic and paper towels from microwave. Let the garlic cool for at least 15 minutes.
-
Step 9
Separate the garlic into individual cloves. To eat or use the garlic, squeeze each clove gently until the soft roasted garlic comes out of the skin.
