1. Read user reviews of various video-on-demand services from neutral consumer sites to find out what services are rated the best.
2. Compare sites by visiting them to see if they seem easy to figure out and navigate.
3. Browse each site to see what its selection of movies is like and if it offers television shows in addition to films.
4. Find out if the site is a rental site or if you buy the movies--or maybe both.
5. If you rent the movies, find out how long you have to watch them and if, once you start the film, you have only a certain amount of time (for example, 24 hours) to finish watching it.
6. Look at the pricing. Do you pay per movie, do you pay a monthly fee or can you even pay per minute of viewing?
7. Find out if the site allows you to burn the movies to DVD.
8. See what format the videos come in and make sure you have the appropriate video player installed on your computer: Windows Media Player, RealPlayer or QuickTime.
9. If the site requires you to download its own video player to watch the videos, do so.
10. Test your system to see if it can play the sample video that the site provides. Examine the video quality to see if it's worth the money.
