Things You'll Need:
- Flame-resistant decorations
- Decorations that are labeled for outdoor use
-
Step 1
Lock your doors at night when you go to sleep and turn on any alarms you may have. 'Tis the season for shopping and giving. But this is also the season for robberies. Try to detour a robbery from your home. Another great way of doing this is by placing a sign stating that your home is protected by a security system.
-
Step 2
Use decorations that are made from flame-retardant materials and those that are flame resistant.
-
Step 3
Only put decorations outside that belong outside, especially those that plugs into your electrical outlets. If a decoration states it is for indoor use this means that it can not with stand moisture and can very well catch on fire if it becomes wet.
-
Step 4
Do not use artificial icicles on your tree if you have a young child or an ambitious dog or cat prancing around the area. Artificial icicles can easily cause choking.
-
Step 5
Watch those older ornaments for lead.
-
Step 6
Don’t leave food out for an extended period. You don’t want your family to end up with food poisoning.
-
Step 7
Keep real trees watered and keep those artificial ones away from your fireplace.
-
Step 8
Be sure to pay for your home owners insurance and all health insurances, just in case.

on 8/12/2008 Also be very careful driving home from the family festivities. My niece lost her mother-in-law last Christmas eve in an auto accident.
