Make your own peanut butter centers to store in your freezer until you are ready to dip them in chocolate.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 4 c. peanut butter (creamy)
  • 2 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 stick butter (1/2 cup)
  • good-quality milk chocolate for dipping
  • double boiler for melting chocolate
  • slotted spoon
  • waxed paper
  • molds for chocolate candies if desired
  1. Step 1

Mix the peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla and butter together thoroughly using an electric mixer.

  2. Step 2

Melt chocolate--enough for one batch--in the top of a double boiler.

  3. Step 3

Take a small amount of the center mixture and roll into a ball about the size of a walnut. This makes one piece of candy.

  4. Step 4

Using a slotted spoon, dip each center into chocolate and place on waxed paper to harden. If you want to mold the candy into a shape, place the dipped candy into the mold, making sure that chocolate covers the center on all sides.

  5. Step 5

Repeat this procedure until you have used all the chocolate.

Tips & Warnings
  • After each chocolate dipping session, remaining centers can be frozen until another time. The chocolate-dipped candies can also be frozen, but they are better fresh.
  • When melting the chocolate in the double boiler, be careful not to splash water into the top pan with the chocolate. It will change the consistency.

on 12/4/2008 I freeze my homemade peanut butter patties, too, for dipping in chocolate later--though I have to admit, they don't always make it to the dipping step. These are very well-written instructions. Made my mouth water! Five stars!
