Instructions

  1. Making Powdered Deodorant

    • 1

Put the baking soda and cornstarch into a glass or plastic container. Always use one part baking soda to six parts cornstarch.

    • 2

Sprinkle in a few drops of essential oil to add fragrance. This step is optional.

    • 3

Twist the lid onto your container and shake it for about 30 seconds until the ingredients are mixed together.

    • 4

Dab a powder puff into the deodorant and gently pat the powder onto each of your underarms.

    Making Stick Deodorant

    • 5

Put the baking soda and cornstarch into a bowl. Always use one part baking soda to six parts cornstarch.

    • 6

Sprinkle in a few drops of essential oil to add fragrance. This step is optional.

    • 7

Use a fork to mash the powder together with coconut oil. If the consistency is too powdery, add more coconut oil until it's similar to the consistency of commercial stick deodorants.

    • 8

Scoop the mixture into your clean stick-deodorant container and apply to your underarms.

Tips & Warnings

  • Each deodorant recipe takes approximately five minutes to make.

  • Use different essential oils each time you make deodorant to add variety.

  • Cornstarch acts as an antiperspirant, while baking soda acts as a deodorant.

  • Stick deodorant may melt in the summertime and should be stored in the refrigerator.

  • When used alone, baking soda may cause skin irritation.
