How to Make English Toffee

Your family and friends will never want store-bought toffee again--nor will you! It's great for gifts too.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Heavy aluminum 3-quart pan
  • cookie sheet with sides, or jelly roll pan
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 2 c. white sugar
  • 2 6 oz. pkg. sliced almonds, chopped fine or ground
  • 1 8-oz. plain chocolate candy bar

Step1
Mix together 1 lb. butter, 2 c. white sugar and almonds in 3-quart pan.
Step2
Cook on high heat, stirring constantly until 295 or 297 F is reached on candy thermometer.
Step3
Spread candy in the ungreased cookie sheet with sides.
Step4
Break the 8 oz. candy bar into pieces and spread it over the hot toffee.
Step5
Cool for several hours and break into pieces.
