So you've got a website--now what? You'll probably want to get some return on your investment. And the best way to do that is to increase your website's traffic. You may think that just having a site out there means that you'll have traffic--not so. Search engines know your site is new--and they have no interest in it until others do. That's where raising your traffic comes in. With more people going to your website, it can transfer into more sales and more business. Here are a few tips to help you boost your audience.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer
  • SEO Books

Step1
Advertise your site. Clearly it's vital to tell people about your new website. Make sure to put your URL on .all of your marketing materials. Feature it on your advertisements, business cards, letterhead, email signature, etc.
Step2
Get posted. There are plenty of places online where you can input your web address. You should start with websites that cater to your target market. Otherwise, search for resource databases in your industry and submit your link.
Step3
Go au natural. There are ways to get your website noticed naturally. Because the engines are constantly scanning for new content, they will pick up your site, read the content and rate your website based on a mathematical equation. When people search the Web for content that matches the copy on your site, your site will come up in natural results.
To increase your chances of getting noticed, make sure header tags and meta tags feature the search terms you want to be known for. Put some of these terms throughout your copy if you haven't already. You can also switch links with other sites to gain more popularity.
Step4
Use pay-per-click. If you do this, which entails purchasing keywords, you will have to pay.
Step5
Add a blog. More content means more traffic. So anyway you can work in your SEO search terms aside from your meta tags and headers--and in the copy--is a plus.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pick up a book or read some blogs on SEO. It's easy to pick up the terminology and learn more about getting better traffic.
