Children in schools everywhere play hockey everyday without skates, sticks or even ice. If you're resourceful, you can have fun slapping coins around for hours on end and don't have to worry about losing your teeth in the process.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Three coins
  • A table
  • An opponent

Step1
Find three large coins. Quarters are the traditional choice, but half dollars or a dollar coins work as well.
Step2
The two players sit on opposite ends of the table.
Step3
Decide which of the two players goes on offense first.
Step4
A hockey goal The player on defense creates a "goal" by placing his palms on the table with his thumbs extended inward until they touch. The thumbs should lie along the edge of the table to stop the coins from going over the ledge. A goal can also be formed by placing the fists on the edge of the table while extending only the pinkies over the surface.
Step5
The player on offense places the three coins flat on the table in front on him. The coins should form a triangle, with one coin on the offensive player's edge of the table and the other two coins directly in front of it. All three coins should be touching each other.
Step6
The offensive player begins by tapping sharply downward on the coin that lies on the edge of the table, which strikes the other two coins and sends them sliding across the table.
Step7
One coin must travel between the other two. The offensive player then must use the same tapping motion to propel any of the coins so that it slides between the other two coins without touching them.
Step8
An alternate goal configuration The offensive player repeats tapping one coin between the other two until he's able to tap a coin between them into the goal--that is, between the opponent's hands. A goal scores one point.
Step9
Once a player scores, the opponent goes on offense.
Step10
If the offensive player hits one of the two coins with the coin he flicks, if he misses flicking it between the two coins or if he hits a coin off the table, he scores zero, and the opponent goes on offense.
Step11
The player with the most points wins.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are subtle variations on game play--such as how to hit the coins--so make sure both players agree on the rules before starting.
