Things You'll Need:
- Yourself
- A tape recorder (if one is not provided)
- Referrals
- An open mind
-
Step 1
Determine what type of reading you want. Do you like the pictorial representation of tarot cards? Are you intrigued by rune symbols? Have you become fascinated by palm readers? Each person is different and has an affinity toward a certain type of divination. Select the one that works for you. If you are unsure, then just ask around or do research. There is a lot of information on the Internet and in bookstores (most of which have specific sections for divination tools). Trust that the universe will lead you to the method that is right for you.
-
Step 2
Get a referral. There are many ads in newspapers, on the Internet, and on the TV and radio about psychics, in all their manifestations (tarot readers or others). Some are especially tempting due to their emphasis on “free” readings and toll-free numbers to dial. To decrease the chances of getting cheated, it’s best to get a referral from someone you know and trust. This not only diminishes the likelihood that you and your money will be parted in an abrupt and unpleasant manner, but the peace of mind that comes from a trusted referral will go a long way toward a successful reading.
-
Step 3
Make sure the referral is a good fit. Before you sit down and let a stranger into your aura or head (and wallet), make sure that you and the provider are on the same page. Feel free to ask questions about clientele, length of time doing readings, how she or he performs readings, any certifications that he or she may have (for example, the American Tarot Association certifies tarot readers up to the International Grand Master level and offers continuing education classes). If the provider takes offense at your questions, then thank them for their time and find someone else. Any practitioner worth her salt will not find such questions intrusive.
-
Step 4
Make an appointment. Most solo practitioners will not do a reading on the spur of the moment; the truly successful have a loyal clientele and appointments are preferred. Making an appointment ensures that you have sufficient time to address any concerns that have prompted you to get a reading and can do so in a relaxed, private atmosphere.
-
Step 5
Ask the proper questions. When getting a reading, it’s best not to ask “yes or no” questions; the practitioner usually does not receive answers in such a black-and-white manner. Instead, ask what you need to know about a certain area of your life (e.g., career, love, finances) or a particular situation (e.g., would it be better for me to move to Vermont, or stay in Kentucky?). Avoid questions such as “Will she come back to me?” or “Will I get pregnant?”, or questions to test the practitioners abilities, such as “Do I have cancer?”. Don’t waste your money or your (and the practitioner’s) time on trivialities.
