Step1
First, have the person you want to shop for in mind, and their personal interests. If you don't know someone's(babysitter, teacher, etc.) interests, give them more of a generic gift, like a gift certificate, candy, etc. Once you know who you want to shop for and their interests, be ready to get creative.
Step2
If you aren't a very creative person (or you are and are just lazy) you can use a website that comes up with ideas for you. My favorite website is www.personalshopper.com. You have to set up an account, which takes very little time. Once you have an account, then you can enter the person's age, gender, relationship to you (mom, dad, sister, spouse, etc.) and their interests. Then the site comes up with gift ideas for that person. IF you enter the person's birthday, the site will automatically send you an email near their birthday telling you reccommended gifts. The only problem with this site is that it is not very personal.
Step3
If you feel like getting creative, think of what the person you are shopping for likes to do. If your husband is an outdoorsman, something like a Swiss Army knife, or a hiking guide would be good. If you are searching for a teenage girl, makeup, jewelry, and gift cards for clothes work nicely. It doesn't matter who you are searching for, you will be able to find a good gift for them. Search using search engines like Google or Yahoo!, and you most likely will be able to find something.
Step4
One of the best gifts someone can recieve is something homemade. Even though it is corny, the thought is what matters most. The most dazzling gift may not be so dazzling in a year or two, but something that someone made for you will. When someone takes time to make something for you, that is a sign that they love and care for you. I am not saying store bought gifts are bad, but homemade ones mean more. Some great sites for good homemade gifts are:
