Things are moving so fast in life and business as downsizing makes each employee even more valuable than ever. It is easy to get too wound up on the job and stress can take a very hefty toll on our general health and well being. Here are some ideas to relax in the workplace.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A laid back attitude

Step1
Avoid procrastination on projects and deadlines. If you wait until the last minute to get things done, you will have a longer time to fret about the deadline and your stress level will increase. Working at a steady pace instead of in fits and starts will relieve your anxiety.
Step2
Keep distractions under your control. Shut off the phone and close the office door if you need time to concentrate. If you only have a cubicle, borrow an empty conference room if you need quiet to do your best work.
Step3
Use email on a schedule. If you tend to check your email more than two or three times per day, you are wasting your time in busy work. If something is truly critical, you will get word of it in time. Also, if you can use voice mail to your advantage, send calls to the machine when you need to focus on other things.
Step4
Use toys to increase your creative impulses. Desk toys like squeeze balls and plastic puzzles can be relaxing and stimulating at the same time. It is good for you to take frequent breaks from the computer use and use a squeeze ball to exercise your hands.
Step5
yoga or Tai Chi will relax your mind and body. Practice yoga or Tai Chi and take a daily break from work to do exercises at or near your desk. If possible, put on a relaxation CD and stretch your muscles and you will release endorphins to stimulate your mind.
Step6
Taking a walk at lunch or during a break to get outside and clear your mind is a great daily practice if you can manage it. You will feel refreshed and will be increasing your health by staying fit with walking. Start a walking group at work if you can and keep yourself motivated with other people doing the same thing.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don’t take work too seriously. Of course work is important and vital to our financial solvency but realize that there are many things more important than a job. Our family, friends and health come first. Relax and enjoy yourself more often.
