If you write articles or blog entries for the web, chances are you’ll be required to learn a few HTML programming basics. Even if you’ve never programmed before, learning the fundamentals of code will help you improve your blogs and articles alike. Here are the most rudimentary steps required to create a link.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

By far the most common thing you’ll probably need to do in a blog or article is to create a link. It’s very simple. Start with the code highlighted to the left. (Click on the image to enlarge it.)

  2. Step 2

Under the “URL” section, type the article or website address you’d like to link to. Use the entire link, including the “http://” part at the beginning. For example, if I wanted to link to the article you are currently reading, I’d type: “http://www.ehow.com/how_2135490_link-simple-html-programming.html”

  3. Step 3

Make sure to KEEP the quotes, and just replace the URL with the website address.

  4. Step 4

Next, add text that you’d like to highlight between the “> <” part of the code. In the example above if I wanted to have the link to simply say, “Take a look,” I’d type the text found at left. (Click to enlarge the image.)

  5. Step 5

Leave the rest of the code as is. You’ve now just created a link.
