You re trying to become a more environmentally-conscious person at home. You're recycling and reusing items but what about the way you shop? There are a few easy tips you can do when you're at the grocery store to help out the environment without breaking the bank.

    Greener Produce Buying

  1. Step 1

    Look to see if there is locally grown produce first. You'll support local economy as well as contribute to the reduce of fossil fuels in the transport.

  2. Step 2

    If possible, don't use the plastic produce bags. If your produce does need to be protected, consider bringing a bag from home instead.

  3. Step 3

    Buy organic. By supporting organic farmers, consumers are helping shape the demand for hormone and pesticide-free foods.

  4. Buying Greener Lunch Box Snacks

  5. Step 1

    Instead of buying prepackaged, single servings of cookies or chips. Buy in bulk and package serving sizes at home. Manufacturers charge more for single servings not only because of the convenience, but for all the extra packaging it takes as well.

  6. Eco-Friendly Checkout

  7. Step 1

    Don't use the plastic bags at check out. Either opt for paper or better yet, bring your own bags from home. You can use a cloth bag or reuse the old grocery bags you have.
