Time is of essence when you're preparing for a trip whether it be a quick getaway or a longer trip. Packing doesn't need to take hours to do and with a little practice, you can learn to pack under a half an hour! Save time and aggravation by following these basic tips.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Weekender bag
  • Toiletry bag
  • Travel size toothbrush
  • Travel size toothpaste tube
  • Travel size face creams
  • Pair of dark jeans
  1. Step 1

When packing for any trip, the important thing to take into account is what kind of trip you're packing for. Whether it be a quick jaunt which lasts a weekend or one that is for a longer duration, make a mental note of the five to 10 essential pieces that you can mix and match easily.

  2. Step 2

Rule of thumb: You don't need to pack your entire season's wardrobe--only a few pieces that are basics in muted tones of black, white and browns that you can coordinate in different outfits and wear with jeans.

  3. Step 3

Try to pack lightweight cotton items that won't make your weekender bag hefty to carry, that won't wrinkle and can be hand washed in a pinch if needed. Always pack at least one outfit--be it a nice dress or dressy button front shirt and a pair of nice slacks for guys--that can be worn for a dressier occasion.

  4. Step 4

Pack at least one pair of dressy heels or shoes and wear the comfortable everyday pair to the airport. Flip-flops are optional for beach vacations.

  5. Step 5

Before packing, think of how many days you're going to be away for and pack for just that exact amount of time. For instance, if it's just four days, then pack four outfits only. This cuts down on the over packing syndrome.

  6. Step 6

Once the clothes are packed, equip your toiletry bag with travel size products from toothpaste and tooth brush to face creams so you cut down on space in the bag. Don't worry about packing shampoos, conditioners and body lotion. You can just use the minis that are offered at the hotel. Just pack the absolute essentials. The rest you can buy later if needed.

  7. Step 7

Keep the toiletry bag constantly stocked with mini travel products and don't unpack it even after the trip. It makes for easy quick grab when packing for the next trip.

  8. Step 8

Put all your chargers for your electronic gadgets in one bag and keep them there so you won't forget to pack them for the next time either.
