Chocolate biscuits is a treat my mother would make us for special breakfasts to go along with the chocolate gravy she made. It may sound strange, but it is really good. Chocolate biscuits can be made for breakfast, brunch or dessert and you can add several tasty extras to make the recipe your own.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 tbsp. baking powder
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • A large mixing bowl
  • A cookie sheet
  • Butter to grease the cookie sheet
  • A fork
  1. Step 1

Put all of the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well.

  2. Step 2

Smash the shortening into the dry mix with your fork until the mixture is grainy looking.

  3. Step 3

    Add the milk and mix.

  4. Step 4

Grease your cookie sheet with the butter.

  5. Step 5

Form the chocolate biscuit dough into small balls with your hands, flatten them slightly and put them on your cookie sheet.

  6. Step 6

Bake the biscuits at 350 degrees F for 30 minuets. The biscuits will get little cracks in the top when they are done.

  7. Step 7

Serve the chocolate biscuits warm. See the link below for direction on making a simple chocolate gravy to serve these biscuits with.

Tips & Warnings
  • You may need to add a little extra milk if the dough seems dry.
  • Add chocolate chips and/or nuts for a cookie-like treat.
  • Dip the cooked biscuits in melted chocolate for a sweet dessert.
  • Avoid adding too much flour to the biscuits. This will make them dry and hard.
