Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Ample amounts of discretion.
Step1
Check Policy - If the company has any workplace dating policies, read them thoroughly before it becomes necessary to do so. Be advised that if you violate the policies, you could be subject to disciplinary action that may include termination of employment.
Step2
Be Discreet - If you become involved with someone, word will leak out in many cases. People will be watching your behavior very closely for cues. Act professionally in all work situations, including off site events and parties. Public displays of affection are not appropriate on the job.
Step3
Communication - Talk to your immediate supervisor if any issues arise about your workplace dating. Hopefully, you will not be romantically involved with an individual who is either your supervisor or your subordinate. This scenario complicates the matter and can adversely effect you and your partner and can potentially jeopardizing your jobs.
Step4
Be Realistic - Relationships do end in most instances. Before moving forward on a romantic impulse, think through the potential consequences in advance and be prepared for the worst result. It might make more sense to look outside of the workplace for romance.
Step5
Professionalism - If the relationship ends, be sure to treat the other person with dignity and respect at all times. This means that you do not discuss the relationship or make derogatory comments about your former love interest to anyone in or affiliated with the workplace.
